Breakfast at Lux in Marlborough St, Newtown, just down from Campos Coffee. Its an old house converted into a cafe so you can sit outside on the smll verandah or come in and may be lucky enough to grab a small round table to yourselves, or be happy to share a long table with others.
FABULOUS cakes, danishes, croissants. Danishes were warm and just out of the oven, the pastry both crisp yet buttery melting at the same tme. Today's were filled with a mild almond custard which cradled a glazed baked beurre bosc peach half. Absolutely beautiful, the loveliest I have ever eaten.
Breakfast is from a blackboard menu. NOTE: NO BACON!!!!
There is home-cured ocean trout, however. I elected to have the lebanese sausages (warning: hot!), and avocado and hash browns. My companion had the mushrooms. The scrambled eggs were fantastic, the avocado fresh and tasty, not too soft, and the mushrooms flavoursome and well-cooked.
Other offerings were croissant with ham and cheese, and it is very generously filled, and toast with a lovely home-made strawberry, rhubarb and apple jam.
Sorry there's no photos of the food, we ate it all before I remembered!! Next visit, I promise!
Sad about the bacon, but the eggs were so good we'll be back.
A busy and fun place for breakfast. Good coffee too.
Rating: 3.5 slices of toast (no bacon!)
