Since my old favourite The Breakfast Blog is now travelling o/s, I am forced to make this entry for a great breakfast place in Sydney - Deus Cafe in Camperdown. Situated on the corner of Missenden and Parramatta Rds, it is inside the bke shop Deus ex Machina. On Sundays at least the bike shop is closed and you can admire them through the plate glass doors as you sip your machiato and tuck into scrambled eggs, lashings of crispy bacon, oven-baked tomatoes, sliced mushrooms in garlic, wine and sage and two slices of fresh bread at the communal tables in the cafe.
I had the brioche with poached egg, asparagus, roasted tomato, prosciutto with truffle oil, and fresh watercress on the side. As you can see, not your average breakfast offering. It's great to see something more interesting than eggs and bacon alone. The food was exceptionally fresh, and beautifully cooked. Definitely a keeper.
Deus Cafe is open 7 days a week for breakfast (all day) and lunch. HOURS: Mon/Fri 7.30-3 Sat 8-3 Sun 9-3.
